GENERAL INFORMATION

ProAI (Program to Create Digital Opportunities in Haiti through Artificial Intelligence) is a national pilot research and awareness project designed to strengthen AI skills, foster ecosystem collaboration and support responsible AI adoption in Haiti. The program is implemented by Banj with strategic and financial support from Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

ProAI addresses gaps in AI knowledge, limited practical adoption, fragmented innovation ecosystems, and the absence of a structured national AI roadmap in Haiti.

The program runs for 36 months, from October 2025 to June 2028, with progressive implementation through cohorts and thematic phases.

ProAI targets:

The official launch ceremony is scheduled for February 26, 2026, at the IDB premises in Port-au-Prince.

TRAINING AND CAPACITY BUILDING

ProAI offers structured AI training modules:
  • Technical AI fundamentals for developers
  • Functional AI literacy for non-technical participants
  • AI productivity tools for public and private sectors
  • Ethics, governance, and responsible AI
  • Practical workshops on generative AI and applied use cases

Yes. All modules are aligned with international benchmarks (OECD, UNESCO, EU AI frameworks, North American best practices) and adapted to the Haitian context.

In accordance with educational requirements, all materials and sessions will be available in French and/or Creole.

The curriculum includes theoretical presentations, reading guides, and practical exercises in a hybrid format.

Participants are selected through an open call based on: Clear eligibility criteria, Professional or academic background, Motivation and relevance to their sector, and Institutional endorsement (for government and private sector staff).

Yes. Participants who complete the required modules and assessments will receive a certificate of completion issued by ProAI and its academic partners.

Progress is measured through: Pre and post-training assessments, Module specific performance indicators, Practical exercises, and Attendance tracking.

COMMUNITY & ECOSYSTEM DEVELOPMENT

The ProAI Network is a national AI community structured around: An active community (developers, students, professionals) and a community of practice (policymakers, institutions, private sector, academia, diaspora).

Interested communities must submit a letter of interest to Banj, demonstrating capacity and past experience via labs@banjht.com.

At least 24 community activities (meetups, workshops, panels) will be organized across the North, West and South regions.

Yes. ProAI is designed to be inclusive and welcomes both technical and non-technical participants.

Inclusion is ensured through targeted outreach, inclusive selection criteria, accessible learning formats, and partnerships with local community organizations.

AWARENESS & COMMUNICATION

Three campaigns focus on: Perception of AI (demystifying), Exposure to AI tools, and Adoption of AI in daily, academic and professional contexts.

Impact is measured using reach metrics, surveys before/after campaigns, changes in perception, and participation rates.

RESEARCH & AI ROADMAP

The AI Roadmap is a white paper serving as a strategic guide for integrating AI into public policy in Haiti, outlining priority sectors, governance, capacity needs, and ethical principles.

Government institutions, private sector, academia, technical experts, civil society and diaspora stakeholders.

Yes. The roadmap is designed to serve as a reference for future national AI policies and regulatory frameworks.

Community leaders are directly involved in the drafting consultations.

MONITORING & EVALUATION (MEL)

ProAI uses an M&E framework including baseline/midline/endline evaluations, quantitative/qualitative indicators, and regular reporting.

Number of people trained/certified, knowledge improvements, level of AI adoption in institutions, community engagement, and policy-relevant outputs.

GOVERNANCE & PARTNERSHIPS

Banj is responsible for overall coordination and operational implementation, while IDB provides strategic oversight and financial support.

Academic institutions, technical experts, community organizations, media partners, and public/private institutions.

By nominating participants, hosting activities, contributing expertise, or supporting sustainability.

SUSTAINABILITY & NEXT STEPS

Participants join the ProAI Network, alumni continue engaging through events, and institutions are supported in piloting AI solutions.

Through capacity transfer to local institutions, community ownership, policy engagement, and strong partnerships.

No. ProAI is designed as a foundational program to catalyze long-term AI adoption and ecosystem development in Haiti.
